Tawang district is one of the 16
administrative districts of Arunachal Pradesh in northeastern
India. The area is historically Tibetan territory and is
claimed by both the People's Republic of China and the Republic of
China as a part of South Tibet. It is located at a distance of
183 Kms from Bomdila and is situated at an altitude of 3500 metres
above sea level.
Tawang is a popular tourist destination. The Sela Pass rises
steeply and is covered with snow for most of the year.Visitors to
Tawang district require a special Inner Line Permit from the
government which are available in Kolkata, Guwahati, Tezpur, and
New Delhi.
The best season to visit Tawang is the summers season and onset of
monsoon season. The temperature remains comfortable and is apt for
sightseeing. The best months to visit are March, April, May, June,
September and October.
November to February is the winter season in Tawang. The climate is
extremely cool and the temperature ranges below -10°C to on
January, which is the coldest month of the
year.
